Disabling a plugin in Joomla via phpMyAdmin / MySQL

If you can no longer get into Joomla because of a new or malfunctioning plugin, you can disable it via phpMyAdmin / MySQL.

  1. Log in to phpMyAdmin, http://www.uwdomein.xx/phpmyadmin. You can find the username via DirectAdmin, File Manager, and then the configuration.php in the /domains/uwdomein.xx/public_html folder (or the folder where you have Joomla installed). It is the value after $user and $password.
  2. Once logged in, look for the table *_extensions_table and click Browse. You will now see which extensions are activated in Joomla. Find the plugin in question, click the enabled column and change the 1 to a 0. You can always change this back later without any problems.

It can also help to disable the most recently installed or activated extensions to see whether things then work normally again.
