Working together with colleagues in the browser and the program

Are you working in the Nextcloud Office program while your colleague works in the browser? Then you can both work in the same document at the same time, just like two colleagues who both work in the browser. Condition: you open the document from your connected Nextcloud in the program (see Linking the program to your WebOké Nextcloud).

How it works

  1. In Nextcloud Office, open your Nextcloud on the left under Connected clouds.
  2. Open the shared document. Your colleague opens the same document in the browser.
  3. You can see each other's cursor and changes. Comments, mentions, track changes and chat work as described in chapter 8. See Tegelijk aan een document werken and Snel of Strikt: de twee samenwerkmodi.

A colleague who doesn't have access to the file can't work together with you. Share the file first, see Een document delen met een collega.

Files on your own computer

If you open a file that's on your own computer (with Open local file or by double clicking it in your Explorer or Finder), you work alone. Nobody sees your changes until you save the file and it's uploaded to your Nextcloud.

The same applies to files in the folder of the synchronisation app Nextcloud Files (Working with the Nextcloud desktop app (synchronisation)). The app only uploads the file to your Nextcloud after you save it. If a colleague works on the same file in the browser in the meantime, a conflict arises: two versions side by side.

Please note: always work on a shared file that colleagues are also working on via the browser or via your connected Nextcloud in the program, not via the synchronisation folder. This way, you avoid duplicate versions. Has it happened anyway? In Versiegeschiedenis: een oudere versie terugzetten you can read how to restore an older version.
